This was a long anticipated drama that had been building up hype since like a year ago. I’ve always loved the chemistry between Tiffany Tang and Luo Jin and they even have Vanness Wu in here! Anyway this is a historical drama based off the true story of Princess Wei Young in Ancient China. Tiffany Tang plays Xin Er, a princess from the Northern Liang kingdom. Her family is massacred by the Northern Wei in which she narrowly escapes the wrath of.
She bumps into Li Wei Yang who saves her but is then killed by her blood family, the Lis. The Lis are a noble family who’s family head is an import adviser for the king. The head’s main consort had Wei Yang killed because she didn’t want her coming over outshining the oldest daughter of the Lis. Wei Yang had been forced to live in the countryside since she was born and the Lis were asking her back. As she dies, she asks Xin Er to take care of her birth mother back at the Wei Kingdom. Xin Er agrees and then takes the identity as Wei Yang, and enters the Li family who wanted to take Wei Yang back from the country side. As Wei Yang, Xin Er wants to take revenge for both her kingdom and the real Wei Yang.
It’s quite interesting to me that in My Sunshine, Tiffany was Tan Kai’s love interest at some point and in this drama, he’s her father, King Hexi. Luo Jin is Tuo Ba Jun, a prince from the Wei Kingdom. He saves Wei Yang a few times during her escape. They take interest in each other but Wei Yang isn’t aware of his royal identity and that he comes from the very same kingdom that killed her family. Vanness plays Tuo Ba Yun, Tuo Ba Jun’s brother. They have serious conflict right from the start of the drama but for some reason when they see each other back at the household, they seem okay. Tuo Ba Yun is more calculating and definitely likes to try to beat his brother.
After Wei Yang enters the Li family, she is of course met with a lot of hostility from the women there who don’t want her around. Wei Yang isn’t just any maiden though, she’s really strong and very smart. She knows the main concubine, Jiang Rou (Lily Tien) and her daughter, Li Chang Le (Li Xin Ai) is out to get her. Wei Yang befriends different people in the household. When Tuo Ba Jun shows up, they’re happily reunited but only for a few seconds. Wei Yang immediately pulls back when she realizes he’s the son of the man that had her family murdered. Tuo Ba Jun is really confused but likes her very much. Chang Le who’s always liked him obviously gets extremely jealous but how much attention he gives to Wei Yang. She has that antagonist role that likes to scheme against others but has nothing to show for herself. She thinks she’s always the victim when she’s the one that tries to screw everyone over. Although a lot of it has to do with that sorry excuse of a person her mother has set as a representation.
I think so far, it’s all been very interesting, I just wish Wei Yang and Tuo Ba Jun’s romance can move a little faster. I know this drama revolves mostly on the politics spinning around between the royal family and Wei Yang with her own family but it’d be nice to see more of her and Tou Ba Jun together.
