The story itself isn’t really that special; a former class president and delinquent switch roles as adults where the delinquent becomes the CEO that the former class president has to serve. The CEO takes revenge for the hostility he received from her in the past. So yeah nothing very unique but nevertheless still an enjoyable watch. I think Joanne Tseng is a pretty solid actress and plays Zhong Yu Tang pretty well. I’m always iffy about Aaron Yan’s acting but he’s improved a lot over the past few years. I love how sarcastic his roles are. They’re usually pretty cold and aloof but react hilariously.
So long story short basically Yu Tang was about to become the personal secretary of the new CEO, Ji Wen Kai (Aaron Yan), however because of a blunder she made, he forces her to to a small and incompetent sales office, while a new secretary, Ai Sha (Lene Lai), takes her place. Wen Kai likes to bother and tease Yu Tang and remind her of how she treated him when they were in high school. Although Wen Kai seems to be an asshole, in the very back of his mind, he still has good intentions for Yu Tang and likes to challenge her to see how far she can push. He says a lot of rude and mean things to her and just when you think she’s about to break, she finds a way to make things work.
I wasn’t too fond of Yu Tang in the beginning as she seemed a bit obnoxious but then I realized she was the most normal and relatable character to a regular audience. Any CEO that looks like Aaron Yan or as young as he is, is obviously the most unrealistic kind. I feel like Aaron as his roles is always a reminder of how unrealistic some dramas are. It’s a shame because his acting has gotten a lot better especially from his days in 霹雳MIT.
Anyway Wen Kai slowly begins to care more and more about Yu Tang as he is around her more often. He ends up saving her family from debt (of course) and in return, she is his house keeper and personal assistant outside of the work (OF COURSE). Sometimes it really bothers me as to how predictable the events are. No surprise that she ends up in debt and has to become his maid! Luckily the script is pretty funny to hold my interest.
It’s funny because everything happens just as you would think it. Both of them get sick at different times and end up taking care of each other. I think maybe because it is in the context of office romance, it sort of works. Wen Kai will secretly try to help Yu Tang and when she’s in deep trouble, he puts down everything to go save her. Ai Sha is a character I’m conflicted about. She’s a pretty nice person but you can tell how uncomfortable she is with Yu Tang and Wen Kai’s casual bickering relationship. She’s been pretty nice so far especially to Yu Tang but you never know, it could be a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
As Yu Tang works in the sales department for a period of time, she learns to get along with her co-workers and actually motivates them with her work ethic. She fights hard for her deals. During one of her challenges, she bumps into Wang Zhi Yu (Jack Li), who remembered her from her secretary days. He is a highly praised secretary that unintentionally makes everyone swoon over him because of his kindness. However he mostly disregards them and takes interest in Yu Tang who he feels is really unique. Wen Kai’s jealousy rises as his company and Zhi Yu’s company begin to work together. It’s quite cute how he becomes a lot more affectionate to Yu Tang especially when Zhi Yu’s around, to throw him off.
As Yu Tang and Zhi Yu becomes better friends, she gets shit from a lot of other people. What’s good about her character, is that you can really see her growth. After being treated poorly by her former secretary colleagues, she realizes she must have been like them too when she was still in their department. I like how her sales co-workers always stood beside her when she got shit from other people and how they work like a family.
Wen Kai as always secretly helps her and encourages her to do better. The time they spend together helps them bond and helps Yu Tang understand him more. Ai Sha is clearly in love with Wen Kai, but she doesn’t do anything underhanded and just watches. Although she feels uncomfortable and envious of Yu Tang and Wen Kai’s closeness, she stays professional and does what’s best for Wen Kai as his secretary. She always scolds the other secretary staff when they talk bad about Yu Tang and threaten to pretty much take them off their job if they spend all their time gossiping.
By this time you already know Wen Kai likes Yu Tang and has liked her since their high school days. Ai Sha can see that Yu Tang has feelings for him but doesn’t know and so pretty much suggests to her to help her realize her feelings. Of course it takes Yu Tang awhile, she’s pretty oblivious and dense about this kind of stuff.
